Hi! I’m Sophie (she/they), the potter behind Pigeon Pottery.

I took two short pottery classes in college, and while I loved the physicality of it, I couldn’t quite get the hang of the craft at the time. I found myself drawn to explore pottery again 10 years later when I needed a new grounding hobby, so I joined a studio and began to play with hand-building more deeply. I’ve spent the time since then getting curious and creative with clay, self-teaching myself new techniques and finding forms and styles that really resonate with me.

The shelves I make were born of my desire to display my treasures and finds with the delight and reverence I believe they deserve. They are an ode to my tender, sentimental younger self; to her delight at things often overlooked, and her pockets weighed down by stones and acorns and flowers to press (in this way, I haven’t changed much). They are an homage to my late grandmother, who taught me much of what I know about art and creativity, whose house was covered in collections of sea glass, shells, rocks, and trinkets. They are for anyone who holds their tiny treasures near and dear; who takes the time to slow down and appreciate the world around them.

Outside of pottery, I work as a sex therapist with fellow queer folks, and spend a lot of my time in the outdoors, reading, powerlifting, and obsessing over my cats. I’ll also tell anyone who’s willing to listen about my love of pigeons. Don’t think they’re beautiful, wonderful beings? I’d guess you just aren’t looking closely enough.
